Calendula Salve

from $18.00

This soothing salve is crafted with 100% whole-plant infused organic olive oil and locally sourced beeswax. It does not contain any essential oils.

It’s ideal for hands, feet, face, lips, or any area requiring a gentle moisture barrier, and it works wonderfully as a nappy balm. Creating a whole-plant, essential oil free salve to use instead of the chemically filled zinc nappy creams was the catalyst for my deep dive into herbs!

This salve contains the herbal extracted oils of:

  • Calendula - Like sunshine in plant form, calendula offers deep warmth and gentle drying while encouraging skin replenishment. It is rich in compounds that calm irritation, purify, and protect. Acupuncturist Chris Hafner says it is suited for ‘places where the sun doesn’t shine’, so l can’t think of a better plant l’d want on board for nappy balm!

  • Chamomile - Is best known for its calming properties, both physically and emotionally. Like calendula, topically it is well suited when any irritation is present.

  • St. John’s wort - Another contagiously cheerful plan, St John’s wort contains volatile oils that are soothing and calming. These oils offer relief for skin conditions that are inflamed, red, and creating discomfort.

  • Rosehip - Rosehips contain linoleic and linolenic acid, which help support the skin barrier.

Store out of direct light and away from moisture for a longer shelf-life.

  • This versatile balm is ideal for use on the hands, feet, face, lips, or anywhere the skin feels dry or in need of extra nourishment. It creates a soft, breathable barrier to help protect and moisturise delicate or sensitive areas. Gentle enough for use as a nappy balm.

  • Calendula and chamomile are part of the daisy family, so avoid if you have allergies to plants in this family.

St. John’s wort may increase skin sensitivity to sunlight. Avoid prolonged sun exposure.

  • This is a wonderful herbal recipe from the repertoire of Erin Lovell Verinder.
